First meal of the day, Thit Quan Lua Hong. Grandmother is the best when it comes to food! It is my first time trying this and I like the concept.

Day 15 Dishware, Mountains and Duck Eggs Oh My!

You can find the oddest thing if you just take the time to read. Cinnamon insoles with a graph of reflexology. Different flavored steam buns.

One big marketing gimmick here is free cups, dishes and bowls. From milk, to Knorr seasonings, shampoo to toothpaste.

We went to the mountain to catch some nice breeze since today we have no power at home. One of the rest stops had some cute wild squirrels. THe view of the city was gorgeous. I am so dark that you can only see my smile.

After being in the sun for so long up in the mountains, we stopped at a coffee shop to refresh ourselves with some lemonade yogurt drink.

In the evening we resumed our painting at the bookstore.

One of my many favorite dishes that many can not stand looking at is Vit Long. Vit Long - Fetal Duck Egg. They also serve fetal quail egg boiled in coconut juice. The steps I take to eat this is to suck the juices with a bit of salt and pepper sprinkled in after breaking the top shell. Then spoon out piece, grab the greens and moisten it with lime juice to make the salt and pepper adhere to it. Place it all together and eat it in one spoonful. Yummy!

For desserts, I got green and black bean desserts topped with seaweed. My cup is on the far right. The top your choice of filling with coconut cream and ice.

One thing I do crave is plain steam bun with no fillings. It is a great way to end my evening of just eating around.

Day 14 Eat Around

First meal of the day was Bun Rieu.My Aunt made this for me and the rest of the family to enjoy.

I swear kids can sleep through anything and anywhere. Mostly with candy still sticking halfway out of their mouth.

Fresh coconut juice is always refreshing.

Su Su is green bean dessert sold across the street to munch on.

Another one of my favorite eats besides Banh Xeo is Banh Khot. The crispier the better.

Later on the evening we went to their local bookstore where they sell everything from school supplies to wish containers. Even their coffee cups here are cute! Upstairs is the crafts area. You can purchase a plastered figure to paint. If you do not finish, you can always come back the next day. Unlike us, we came really late where it was close to closing time and forced out.

Ngoc Chau is our next stop for some late night snack. I had Kem Chuoi which is frozen banana flatten out a bit, topped with coconut meat, peanuts and a bit of coconut cream.

On our ride back home, we stopped by to the local bingo (they call it Lotto) carnival. The Lotto here is hosted by the gays and transexuals. Very entertaining! It is always crowded here.

Day 13 Roaming to Eat

No power today. I happen to visit when the city shuts off our power to sell it to others. Our power is shut off from 6 am to 6 pm. We do experience 2-3 power outages in the middle of the evening which last about 20 minutes max.

It looks romantic but it sucks to be doing almost everything with a candle light.

While the power is out, I roam about the villa. I noticed upstairs an old suitcase. Back in the early eighties, my father bought that suitcase to travel with. Here it is. Wow.

I love my rechargeable fan. It last up to 5 hours on low and high setting. Took my cousin's niece out to the city's shopping center. They sell a lot of handmade trinkets.

Their mini "Wal-Mart" concept carries a wide varieties. From bobble head asian figures to the drinking horse game. Fruits and vegetables here are displayed nicely.

The highlight of my day is Banh Xeo. They make it half the size of the regular size. These mini banh xeos are cooked to crispy yummyness. They serve it with greens and non-dipped rice paper. The sauce wets the rice paper where all you taste is crunchiness goodies.

We later had ice cream with flavors ranging from durian and green beans to milk flavor.

Later on the night, I had decided to take some of my aunts out to the club. Married women here rarely goes out (culture wise). We tried out a local bar 'club' scene. The music is ok. Nice thing here is they always refill my cup of iced beer after every sip (annoying) and they have available fruit dishes. To tell the truth, compared to other around the area, there is no dance floor and the place is cramped compared to others. They will not see me here again.

Day 12 Church Day

Breakfast:: Mi Kho. The best hands down. Quan Dung Ut in Ba Ria Vung Tau.

My uncle grilled up some fresh squids and jumbo shrimps for me to munch on.

Church has their own garage to keep our bikes from being stolen. Every bike has its own tag.

Sam Bo Luong is a refreshing dessert. It contains lychee, dried dates, seaweed and what ever they decide to serve. You can choose what you want in your cup.

There is a hill where Catholics can go to pray and make wishes. It also provides a great view of the city.

A great way to end the night is getting freshly squeezed OJ, accompanied by a dish of fruits covered in shaved ice, drizzled with cherry flavor topped off with condense milk.

Money here is called 'dong'. Their bills are colorful like other countries (besides US but we are getting there) and come in various sizes. The smaller the value, the shorter the bill.
